Ang Mutya ng Section E & The Start of Jadine

🎶"La la la la la la oh yeah. Yeah yeah (yeah yeah). Kay tagal din na ito'y kinikimkim. Kung sasabihin ba ay diringgin. Aaminin bang tinatagong lihim. Pag-ibig mo ay tangi kong hiling"🎶

I still remember the time when I was in 3rd year of high school and I watched the trailer of "Diary ng Panget" and Cross Sandford said, "Sige na, maganda kana," and Eya Rodriguez ate the paper. I knew from that moment, even with my underdeveloped brain, that the movie would be phenomenal.

We were so intrigued back then knowing that this Wattpad story was very popular among the students. I mean, we could really see James Reid as the main lead: gwapo, maganda ang katawan at hindi tuwid magtagalog. Pero sino 'tong Nadine Lustre girl? Where did she come from? Would she be able to portray Eya the way we imagined her?

AND YES GIRL, SHE DID!

Isa nga talaga syang royalty from England, direct descendant ni Queen Elizabeth. Haha.

The chemistry between the two was electric. The story itself was kind of dumb sometimes but the ridiculousness of it really made it better.

I can recall that during that time I was so into Kathniel but shifted to Jadine because one of my friends got a dibs on Daniel already and I didn't want to fight with her (teenagers are so protective of their idols lol).

Also, there was something about James that I couldn't just ignore (his abs and accent) and when it comes to Nadine, she was (still is) so talented and has a Filipina beauty.

I could write about what happened to both of their careers after that movie but it would take me two months and five pages to do that. Let me just say, that was the start of the rise of Jadine, one of the most popular love teams in my generation.

Well, well, well, if you are asking why am I bringing up the past? Bakit ko ba inuungkat ang nakaraan when I know that the teenage Marianie who was obsessed with Jadine and stared at the ceiling for fun, is finally grown up and writes in her free time. Well, pasok, "Daleng dale" by MMJ...

🎶"Daleng-dale, daleng dale. Daleng-dale, grabe, daleng-dale.  Sino sya ang lakas ng dating, ang lakas ng dating".🎶

It is because of an ongoing TV series which is also a Wattpad adaptation entitled, " Ang Mutya ng Section E". It is played by Andres Muhlach as Kiefer Watson, Ashtine Olviga as Jayjay Mariano, and Rabin Angeles as Yuri Hanamitchi.

Since I don't read Wattpad anymore, when the trailer was released back in  December, I just watched it for Andres, because aside from him being conventionally handsome, he is the son of Aga Muhlach and Charlene Gonzales. Everyone knows him as the child of a famous couple but it is his first big project after graduating from college, so obviously I want to see how he is as an actor.

When I saw the trailer, I didn't have any expectations at all, as I said, I had no idea about the story or the cast, but I was really stunned. They have an undeniable chemistry.  Though Andres needs to improve his Tagalog skills, the Ashtine Olviga girl is different. SHE IS AMAZING! Let me reiterate that, SHE IS MIND-BLOWING!

You can really see the nuances in her acting skills. Hindi pilit, natural at promising talaga. Sabi ko, "Parang si James at Nadine to ah." They don't look or act the same way, but they really remind me of the early days of Nadine Lustre and James Reid. And knowing that they are Viva artists- in short, alaga ni Boss Vic, I can absolutely see that they were built up in the same way.

James and Andres are both crazy handsome and not comfortable in Tagalog. Nadine and Ashtine were from girl groups before. Atsaka, pareho sila ng atake: opposites attract. Girls who come from simple families with Pinay beauty tapos ipinarter sa Englisherong gwapo na galing sa mayaman na pamilya.

Maybe, if I were still a teenage girl, I would just watch and swoon over Ashdres and their chemistry that is really chemistrying, but my 25-year-old brain would not stop dissecting everything: the formula of a successful love team, the wild love team culture in the Philippines, the business side of it, and why most love teams fall in love and never end up with each other.

Anyway, it's another story for another day. Hahaha."

Cue: Sa Bawat Sandali by Amie Sol

🎶"Kapag magulo na ang mundo.Ikaw ang payapang hinahanap-hanap ko. Tumakbo ka rin patungo sa'kin. Kapag bumibigat na ang iyong dibdib. Ika'y sasalubungin."🎶

P.S. I am just so happy that Filipino teenagers/young adults nowadays will have a Philippine TV series that would remind them of their youth ten years later as I have OTWOL and many others in my generation.

P.P.S. Also, I don't want to end this piece without commending Rabin Angeles's portrayal of Yuri Hanamitchi. Hahaha.

Also, since we are on the train of appreciation, Direk Ted Boborol, Ms. Lara Flores, the staff, and also the whole cast of AMNSE, you're doing a great great job.

Freya, (Sara Joe) aka "The Queen Bee", I still sometimes hear your voice in my head "Once a section E, always a section E. Eh malandi sya."
