SUMMER
You were wearing your faded shirt and gray sweatpants with the air conditioner blasting in your background when we first met. You told me about your major at university—Cognitive Linguistics. We bonded over the same subjects we took and our love for English literature. I must say, I admire your ability to talk about different things with the same facial expression. I wish you would have lifted the corner of your mouth more often.
AUTUMN
You were dressed in a cute brown sweater with your anime hair all over the place while wearing your nerdy glasses when you gushed about how amazing your place is during the fall season. You shared about the changing colors of the leaves, the mild crisp in the air, and the smell of the sweet potatoes that waft from your neighbors' houses. I didn't know why, but something in your aura told me I met someone like you before.
WINTER
You were bundled up in a thick-looking jacket with a checkered scarf wrapped around your neck, drinking a cup of tea, when we talked about the summer you went to Vietnam and found THE paradise in a small town. I was imagining your fine skin kissed by the sun in the alcove known by a few men. Can you see the juxtaposition? You, in the middle of the winter, dreaming of the warm days, while I was on a normal hot day in the Philippines fantasizing about the cold breeze of your place.
SPRING
You were in a very casual t-shirt wearing your brightest demeanor, sniffing a little bit but hyped up about the beauty of springtime and how you just got back from having a picnic under the beautiful Sakura trees when you mentioned your licenses. It's amazing to think that you can legally drive on land, water, and soon in the air while I sit looking and listening at you when I can barely ride a bicycle.
SUMMER
I was in a thin tank top and short shorts complaining about the humidity in my area when I didn't see you again. You must be having a great time during this time of the year. I know how much you enjoy the warm days while camping near the beach and rocking your favorite songs at the music festivals. I learned from one student of mine that Firefly Watching is a thing in Japan during the summer season. How magical would it be to gaze at the glow of those glittering creatures on a hot summer night in the middle of nowhere.
AUTUMN
I was donned in a thin long-sleeved shirt and a white pajama with my hair tied up when I saw you again after months. We talked about an article on the benefits of 'Walking' and our conversation dove into the romantic walk I experienced on one particular rainy evening at the street near the St. Joseph Cathedral in Tagbilaran. You were chuckling about how hopelessly romantic I was. Before the class ended, with your classic expression you shared that you passed the exam to enter Flight School and it dawned on me why you sound familiar. You remind me of the son of the queen- good-looking, smart, and wanting to see the world from above.
WINTER.......
SPRING.......
SUMMER.....
AUTUMN.....
The snow thawed, the flowers bloomed, the fireworks shattered into a thousand sparks, and the leaves changed their colors again in hues that never failed to amaze me, but I never saw you again.
You are maybe flying now or lying on the wooden floor of your dream house in the middle of the ocean, but my soul wants you to know that I'm here sitting on my monoblock chair looking at the cursor on my computer screen waiting for my imagination to take me where I'm supposed to be.
R.S.C., this is not a continuation of 'Anak ug Reyna'. However, the vibes and the people that inspire both pieces are similar in some ways. Enjoy reading!
